World Social Forum
Ibase has been deeply involved with the World Social Forum (WSF) ever since it was first held in Porto Alegre in 2001. The institution participates in important instances that make up the WSF, such as the Secretariat and the International Committee. In addition, it has coordinated and accompanied surveys of the profile of participants in the Forum.
The WSF arose as an answer from organized civil society to the World Economic Forum held in Davos, where representatives of the most powerful countries gather to make decisions that bear on all the populations around the planet.
Under the slogan Another world is possible, the WSF has gained strength and is constantly being recreated. It has become a reference in organization and strengthening a movement of citizenship of planetary dimensions and in facing up to neo-liberalism. It has contributed towards a new political culture that values diversity and dialogue. The participation of young people is an outstanding feature amid the diversity of movements, groups and organizations that make up the Forum.
In addition to the world meetings, regional and thematic Forums are held around the planet throughout the year. The contributions that result from these meetings are added to the proposals presented at the world meetings, which makes this network of planetary participation grow in size and visibility.
